Purchased in May 2011 as a recently broken rising 4 yr old Phantom was a purchase we just couldn't resist. We weren't even looking for a horse at the time as Dean already had a large grey gelding, but his ad randomly showed up on my facebook newsfeed page when he was advertised in the group "Horses for sale Australia wide". I checked him out and for the next two days kept thinking about him and going back to his ad. He really was one of the rare finds that people just didn't sell. It was a very sad sale for his owner Karen as he was just not getting used to his full potential.
1/2 Clydesdale, 1/4 Paint and 1/4 Quarterhorse he was already a big boy as a 3yr old with the added bonus of colour. Gelded late he was the sire of a young colt, whom Karen kept, was his daddy all over. We discussed it to great lengths and just couldn't get him out of our minds so we made the decision that he was just too good to pass up and purchased him.
We have never regretted this decision for a second. Phantom is the most cruiziest, coolest dude and has a bit of a fan club when we go out. Dean and Phantom started jumping early in their partnership but only got to do two events before Dean's work committments kept him from riding very often.
He really is the most amazing amazing boy who will be with us forever. He is worth his weight in gold.
In November 2018 Debs horse Nemo sadly injured herself and as Deb was part of the North Island Teams Event doing all four phases, Dean kindly offered her Phantom to ride. He probably regrets this immensely as Deb has now stolen Phantom for good and is competing him and having a great time. Really formed a great team. He is a cross country machine. He never fizzes out and just takes it all in his stride. Something new? no problem for Phantom, he just carries on as if he had seen it all before. In the remaining half of the 2018/2019 season they competed in 3 One Day Events in the 65cm class, the first one they had an unfortunate rail in the SJ but strong clear XC, the following two clear and bold XC and SJ to finish on their dressage score and all 3 events they have finished in the top 6 which is fanastic. The 2019/2020 season is starting in October and they have moved up to the 80cm class starting with the Taupo Horse Trial. Though excited this is Debs first time at this level for 17 years and Phantom's first time ever. But he has proven himself over and over so one thing is for sure... they will have fun!!
